As Halloween approaches, New Castle County has been planning a host of spooky programming, sure to get you in the spirit of the haunting holiday.

A heart-pounding hunt Rockwood

As darkness comes earlier and earlier each day, Rockwood Museum director Philip Nord is preparing spooky ghost tours for the elegant Victorian mansion. Visitors will hear about Rockwood's history and see close encounters of the paranormal kind using ghost-detecting equipment on the tour, which is recommended for ages 16 and up. Visitors must be able to climb several flights of stairs.
$20, Saturday nights Oct. 3-24, 7 & 9 p.m.

A little levity
Ghost tours aren't your thing? Visit Rockwood in October and see the mansion through the eyes of a Victorian Halloween party guest. A crystal ball and other divination devices are featured in this lighthearted display.
$10/ adults, $5/children. A portion of proceeds funds Rockwood Conservatory restoration efforts.

At the county's fine arts education center art studio, artist Jennifer Davies-Reazor is preparing to teach a two-part gargoyle-making class. The mythical winged guardians of buildings can be silly, scary or just plain fun. The class will be perfect for all levels of experience, because with gargoyles, it is all in the imagination, said Davies-Reaznor.
$63 + $5 materials fee. Oct.14 & Oct. 21, 6-9 p.m.

The county has lined up host of have free, fun programs for all ages this fall at its branch libraries. Here's just a taste.
Newark Free Library hosts "Spooky Stories" Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. On Oct. 27, pre-schoolers can come dressed in costume for Halloween Storytime at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.
Woodlawn Library hosts the South Jersey Ghost Research professionals 7 p.m., Oct. 28.
