New Castle County is actively seeking applications for new paramedics.

Through July 30, the Emergency Medical Services Division is actively soliciting applications from entry-level candidates for full-time paramedic positions. Selected candidates would be employed during a 14-18 month training program at Delaware Technical and Community College, and would be required to sign a five-year commitment to the county.

New Castle County has been accepting applications since June. The next paramedic training class is scheduled to begin in March 2011.

“New Castle County will begin processing the applications for the next paramedic class in August, ” said Chief Lawrence E. Tan of the county paramedics. “This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to make a difference and improve the quality of life in their community.”

According to Tan, the department now has 14 openings, with seven other trainees not yet ready for street duty.

Information regarding paramedic opportunities with the New Castle County is available from either Human Resources Officer Liz Petrick (302-395-5191) or Assistant Chief Daniel Seador (302-395-8188). Additional information including downloadable application forms are available at the EMS Division web site at www.nccde.org/ems.

All employment applications must be submitted to the County Office of Human Resources, at 87 Reads Way, New Castle.
