The Gibby Center for the Arts, 51 W. Main St., Middletown, will host the opening of the exhibit “Under the Sea” on Friday, June 2 from 6-8 p.m. Step into the world of art and enjoy the paintings of mermaids, fish, and coral as well as the surprising shell and fabric creations.

During opening night, visitors can meet all of the artists and enjoy the “Beach Party” theme. Don’t forget to wear your craziest, weirdest beach outfit for a chance to win a prize.

An added bonus is a large mural “Buddy’s Reef” by Tracey Landmann who has championed the arts and special needs through her involvement in both the arts and medical fields. The mural was sponsored in part by the Delaware Division of the Arts and was created for the University of Delaware’s program “Go Baby Go.” This program works with individuals who face physical challenges.

Landmann has written a discourse on this project and has made public appearances discussing the arts and importance of the arts for improving the quality of life for individuals, especially those with challenges.

Along with the chance to meet Landmann June 2, she will also be visiting the Gibby Center on June 16 at 1 p.m.
