Video & photos -- The Appoquinimink High School Marching Band won first place in Open Class 4 at the Tournament of Bands Showcase Saturday in Middletown. The Appoquinimink High School Marching Band swept the top awards in Open Class 4 at the Tournament of Bands Showcase Saturday night at Cavalier Stadium in Middletown.

In the overall standings, the Jaguars edged second place Caesar Rodney by five-one hundredths of a point, 82.60 to 82.55. Placing third was Cab Calloway School of the Arts with 82.15.

Appoquinimink also won the special awards for auxiliary and for percussion.

In Open Class 3, Avon Grove won with a score of 81.95, followed by J.M. Bennett with 78.35 and Wicomico with 73.10.

The Middletown Cavalier Marching Band, as host of the show, performed for exhibition only in Open Class 3. The Cavaliers scored an 83.25. PLEASE SEE A SEPARATE PHOTO GALLERY OF THE CAVALIERS' SHOW ON THIS WEBSITE.

Huntingtown won the Open Class 2 competition with an 83.50 and won the top auxiliary and percussion awards, while Queen Anne's County placed second with 74.90.

In Open Class 1, Colonel Richardson won without a challenger.

The Tournament of Bands Showcase also featured the following Class A bands that performed Saturday afternoon:

Class 1-A: Elkton, first, 81.15 (high auxiliary and high percussion); Caravel Academy, second, 76.45; North East, third, 75.76; Delaware Military Academy, fourth, 75.16.

Class 2-A: Perryville, first, 80.53 (high auxiliary); Rising Sun, second, 77.73; Conrad, third, 76.81; Kent Island, 74.86 (high percussion).

Class 3-A: Lake Forest, first, 79.50 (high auxiliary and high percussion); William Penn, second, 77.66; Laurel, third, 74.75.
