The deadline to file to run for the Appoquinimink School District’s at-large seat on the Board of Education is 4:30 p.m. March 2.
The district is seeking candidates to serve a five-year term beginning July 1 on its board.
Elections will be held May 8 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The winner will be announced that night at the district’s regular Board of Education meeting. They will be sworn into their new role at the June 19 Board of Education meeting for the five year term that will end June 30, 2017.
District residents over 18 may request a filing packet from the Department of Elections for New Castle County. Forms must be notarized and returned to the Department of Elections by March 2.
Employees of the Appoquinimink School District are not eligible to run for the seat on the Board.
This is an unpaid, volunteer position. Board members meet monthly and participate in regular workshops and training. Members are also active in recognition programs, special events and advocacy efforts.
The Board also has fiscal responsibility for approving the annual budget and maintaining a balanced budget at the end of the year.
The School Board will elect its new officers and committee representation at its tentative July 10 meeting.
