Coming into its fifth year, the Delaware Sports League based out of Wilmington has more than 4,200 members who participate in its games and social events. As the league overall has grown, so has the MOT portion of it, which has 120 active members for the current season who play dodgeball, volleyball or both.

“Middletown is a tight knit group,” Suzanne said. “They all randomly go out together.”

DSL owner Bobby Downing and MOT coordinators Kenny and Suzanne Milewski highlighted five things players who join the sport and social club enjoy.

  1. Exercise. This season, the MOT League will have volleyball and dodgeball. In the spring kickball and another sport will be offered.

  2. Meet new people. DSL is considered a sport and social club. Not only do players meet new people on their team, but they also meet people on the teams they play against. There are three sponsor bars in Middletown where players go after games; Sully’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Tom Foolery’s. “Make the most out of it,” Suzanne said. “Say hi to whoever you played.”

  3. Get to know the area. Having to find where you play or the sponsor bars where everyone goes after the games lets you get to know the town. So when you’re looking for your destination, you may find another local gem along side of the road.

  4. Promote a healthy lifestyle. Working out and eating healthy aren’t the only things that make a healthy lifestyle. Having a healthy social life is also important, Downing said. “You can’t go through life without friends.” Single people can meet other singles through DSL and couples can meet other couples to go out with. Players have also met their “someone special” in the league. “A lot of people date in the league.”

  5. It’s fun. The idea is to go out and play as adults, Downing said. “It’s a way to unlock the doorway to the playfulness of youth.”
