Jeanay Whye always had a dream of opening her own business, where she could help others feel better and live healthy without medications or surgeries.
Now she is fulfilling that dream in Middletown, where she has opened Abundant Life Chiropractic Center on Summit Bridge Road.
The business will celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event will include food, free chair massages, spinal screenings and giveaways.
“It’s a time for people to come out and see what the office’s doing and what our goals are,” Whye said. “It’s just to get to know people in the area and get our name out there.”
Whye realized she wanted to become involved in chiropractic after her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 and passed away a year later.
Whye, who was a freshman in college at the time, became a health major to seek answers for why the right treatments weren’t working for her mother.
“As a health major, we had a chiropractor come into our class one day, and she stood and explained to us what true health was and how dangerous it was to judge your health by the way you feel,” Whye said. “When she explained the simplicity of how the body works, it all made sense. I knew right then I wanted to be a chiropractor.”
Although this is her first practice, Whye said she’s been working in the field for three years, in which she worked as an associate doctor for Delaware Chiropractic in Wilmington and Newark.
She said her chiropractic center focuses on working to maintain the proper healthy function of the patient’s spinal and nervous system. Whye specializes in families and individuals of all ages.
“One of my main goals is to teach people how to get well and stay well without drugs or surgery,” Whye said. To me [chiropractic] is the best healthcare out there.”
For first-time patients, Whye said there is a lot of education involved on the first visit, including discussing the patient’s health history, screenings and orthopedic testing.
Whye, who currently lives in Bear, said she decided to open in Middletown because she loves the friendly environment and community atmosphere.
“Everybody is just really close,” she said. “It’s a close-knit community and I really like that. Also, I realized they didn’t have any female chiropractors and I thought I’d be an asset to the town.”
Whye said she hopes her business will grow, as she would like to add offices throughout the state.
