As summer winds down and kids go back to school, parents may be looking for something to keep their children fit, and Middletown Jazzercise has something for them.
Girls, ages 6 to 12, are invited to participate in a free demo session of Junior Jazzercise Friday, Sept. 3, which will kick off the program’s fall season.
Jazzercise Instructor Michelle Joshua, who runs the junior program, said jazzercise is a way to make exercise fun for kids.
“We do aerobic routines to popular music and focus on things that are really easy for the girls to learn,” she said.
Joshua, who has been instructing for three years, said the one-hour free session will let girls and their parents check out the facility and see what the program has to offer. The session will include 30 minutes of aerobic dancing, 15 minutes of games that are meant to get the girls moving and the rest of the time will be spent working on a performance routine.
She said the program is great for girls who enjoy dancing or are looking for a way to stay in shape.
“It’s very social for the girls. A lot of them will bring their friends in,” she said. “It’s good for their self esteem, too. It really does make you feel good.”
Joshua said the fall session will run each Friday night, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the Middletown Jazzercise location.
“[Jazzercise] really is a great program,” she said. “It’s easy to learn and follow along, and it’s very personal.”
