Getting dressed may seem fairly simple to most people. But, for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, dressing, interacting with others and other “simple” activities can be frustrating and confusing experiences. To help healthcare professionals with activities and Alzheimer care, the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter will offer “Activity Based Alzheimer Care: Building a Therapeutic Program,” Wednesday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alzheimer’s Association Julie H.C. Bailey Training Center, 100 S. Main St., Ste. 211, Smyrna.
This interactive program is designed for professional caregivers, including activity professionals, nursing assistants, social workers, nurses, and unit leaders who work with individuals with dementia in all care settings, and meets the criteria for seven hours of continuing education from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCAAP). Program participants will learn about the significance of activities to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as how to adapt activities and the environment to better meet individual needs. Participants will also learn a variety of ways to evaluate current activity programs.
Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. For more information about the training program, call Siobhan Gannon, Professional Outreach associate director, at 302-514-6510 or email siobhan.gannon@alz.org. For a detailed registration brochure, go to www.alz.org/desjsepa/, click on the professional training link, and then click on the Julie H.C. Bailey Training Center link on the professional training page. To register by phone, call Jaymie Hufnal, program assistant, at 302-514-6510.
