AIDS Delaware will open a new HIV testing site at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 15 E. Green St., starting Saturday, March 13. The new site will be open on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Currently, AIDS Delaware provides free HIV rapid testing at its headquarters in the Community Service Building, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 315, Wilmington, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; at the Church of the Ascension, 3717 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Wednesdays, from 5 to 8 p.m.; and at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 276 S. College Ave., Newark, Tuesdays, from 5 to 8 p.m.
“Having multiple HIV testing sites makes it more convenient for people to get tested,” said Darcy Brasure, AIDS Delaware HIV testing manager. “It’s vital that all people know their status. The sooner a person knows if he/she is positive, the sooner he/she can start receiving medical attention and not spread the disease to others.”
The test, which is a simple prick to the finger, provides results in 10 minutes.
“Last year I tested over 650 individuals. This year my goal is to test 1,000 people,” Brasure said.
