The New Castle County Department of Public Safety, Division of Police, will host the fourth annual Police Summer Youth Camp from Tuesday, June 15 to Saturday, Jan. 19. The camp will be held at the NCCPD Police Academy in Newark.
The camp is for children 12 to 16 years old who have an interest in exploring careers in law enforcement. It will be modeled after the New Castle County Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy, which provides local citizens with a first-hand look into the department’s many functions. The program will offer campers hands-on instructions taught by experienced members of the department.
The camp, which is self-sustaining, is funded by a juvenile justice assistance grant and through a $120 tuition fee. To be considered, students must be enrolled in a county school, have a passing grade point average, furnish two community referrals and receive parental consent.
Applications can be downloaded from the New Castle County Police website www.nccpd.com. For more information, call Corporal Amy Kevis at 302-395-8059.
