Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to stay while a child is being treated at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.
The 28th annual Ronald McDonald House of Delaware 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, April 15 at Frawley Stadium, the home of the Blue Rocks, 801 Shipyard Drive, Wilmington.
Registration is at 8 a.m.
A free "Kiddie Run with Ronald" for ages 8 and under will be held at 8:30 a.m., with special guest Ronald McDonald. Ribbons will be awarded to all children who finish.
The 5K starts at 9 a.m.
Registration in advance is $25 for adults and $15 for students.
Register online at www.rmhde5k.com and www.races2run.com.
Day-of registration is $30 for adults and $20 for students.
New this year is a one-mile fun walk. This is a non-chip timed casual walk.
Also new is the Kids Corner with face painting, games, sidewalk chalk and hoola hoops.
The honorary race starter will be Sammy, a child who has stayed at the Ronald McDonald House many times while receiving treatment at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. Sam's family and friends, "Sammy's Sprinters," will be joining the 5K Run/Walk.
Sammy’s Mom said, “Many times, Sammy has insisted upon completing the entire 5K race independently, despite sometimes tripping, and always feeling fatigued. It usually takes him over an hour to finish, but he power-walks the entire 3.1 miles and crosses the finish line amid cheers from his team, other race participants, and onlookers. His goal is always to 'not come in last!' His family stays right behind him!”
The Ronald McDonald House gives special thanks to the lead sponsor, Corporation Service Company, and all the businesses and individuals who have made the event a success!
