Dr. Aisha Lord Ryan, physical therapist and owner of ALL Therapy in Middletown, finished as second runner-up at the Mrs. Delaware America Pageant April 28 at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington. She also won the Scholarship Award.

“I was excited about how far I went in this pageant since it was my first time entering the competition,” said Ryan, who competed as Mrs. Middletown Delaware. However, she was also hoping to win to get a chance to represent Delaware at the national level in the Mrs. America pageant.

Judging was based on an interview which was 50 percent of the score, along with the swimsuit and evening gown contests which were 25 percent each.

Ryan wanted to enter the contest because she was excited to compete for the title of Mrs. Delaware America and “have the ability to represent women everywhere who strive to balance a career and taking care of home.”

To prepare for the pageant, she committed herself to healthy eating and a consistent fitness regimen.

“Most importantly I had to prepare myself mentally for the time and commitment prepping for this pageant would entail,” she said.

What did she like most about the contest?

“I enjoyed being an inspiration for other women and young ladies while promoting my platform on physical health and wellness,” she said. “In addition, I liked that I was able to concentrate on doing something for myself again. With busy life, family and business ownership responsibilities, it's easy to lose yourself in the midst of various demands on your time.”

Ryan said time management was the most challenging part of the experience.

“You have to be organized and mindful of your home and work obligations while remaining consistent with participation in venues and events surrounding your platform,” she said.

Ryan would like to enter the contest again.

“Why not? I was so close. In addition, I enjoyed the process and formed great relationships,” she said.

She is married to Nick Ryan, an engineering executive for aviation development, who is also the president of the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We reside in Middletown and are blessed to have three wonderful children, Nya, 7, Naja, 4, and Nicholas, 3,” she said.

She said her husband has been “exceptionally supportive” in this venture.

“He always pushes me to be my best self while being my number one fan, along with our children,” she said. “They are very proud of me.”

Dr. Ryan , MSPT, DPT, CMTPT, is an entrepreneur, physical therapist and practice owner of ALL Therapy which specializes in physical therapy for orthopedic injuries. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and from Columbia University with her master’s and doctorate degrees in physical therapy. As a classically trained and former touring professional dancer, she said she understands first-hand the importance of remaining healthy and injury-free when focusing on performance. It is with this knowledge that she champions the platform of physical health and wellness to increase awareness among youth and the community through education and community partnerships. She is also a charter member of the Middletown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
