Friday, May 8
    · The Odessa Fire Company will sponsor a No Limit Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament at 7 p.m. at 304 Main St., Odessa. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for pre-registration.
    The first place winner can receive as much as $2,000 and as much as $8,000 in total prizes. Payouts will be based on participation. If there are more than 55 players, first place is guaranteed $2,000.
    The entry fee is $100, which is a 5,00 chip value. Two Rebuys are allowed at $25 each, a $1,500 chip value each. There will be a $5,000 bonus chip with two Rebuys.

    · The Little Creek Fire Company will hold a Mother’s Day Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at their Social Hall. 
     The menu includes stuffed chicken breasts, ham, parsley red roasted potatoes, gravy, succotash, cole slaw, apple sauce, relish tray, coffee, tea and assorted desserts.
     There will be a cash bar with wine and beer.
    The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 10 and free for children 5 and younger. All proceeds will benefit the Little Creek Fire Co., Ladies Auxiliary.

    · The Everett Theatre will host its grand reopening Gala with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony is at 8 p.m. and a theatrical review to see the theatre follows from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
    An original painting of the Everett by local artist Larry Anderson will be unveiled. Prints will be available for sale and 50 percent of proceeds will benefit the theatre.
    Tickets for the gala are $75, which includes a complimentary individual membership to Associated Community Talents Inc., $35 value, and admission to the gala.
    · “The Face of Farming: Farm Families in Delaware” photography exhibit will be on display at the Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibit features the photography of Kathleen Buckalew.

    · “Curtain Up!,” will be performed at The Everett Theatre at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
    Performances include “Grease,” “Annie,” “The Wiz,” “Evita” and “The Wizard of Oz.” These selections from Broadway and Hollywood will conduct the “Curtain Up!” story of how the Everett was saved and restored.
    The cost is $15 per adult ticket and $12 per child and senior ticket.
    · The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Middletown committee will host a casino night fundraiser at the Lank residence in Bear, from 7 to 11 p.m.
     The cost is $15, which will includes casino movies, casino games, buffet dinner and beverages.
    All of the proceeds will go toward the Relay for Life in June.

    · The East Coast Nitros will host an Open House from noon to 2 p.m.
    The facility in Middletown features more than 15,000-square-feet of space, three competition spring floors, two huge gyms, a mirrored dance floor and a parent viewing room with digital cable and hi-speed wireless Internet.

    · A “Shoes 2 Cruise” community shoe drive and classic car show will be held at Peoples Plaza in Newark from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    The Shoes 2 Share, a charitable, non-profit organization will collect new and like new shoes from the community to be distributed to local organizations. Shoes 2 Share also ships shoes internationally to orphanages, hospitals, clinics and programs serving the poor and needy.
    The rain date is Sunday, May 10, from noon to 5 p.m.

    · The Blackbird Community Center will host an all-you-can-eat Mother’s Day Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 120 Blackbird Forest Road, Blackbird.
    The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice and coffee. The price is $8 and children 6 and younger are free. Proceeds will benefit the Center.

    · A “Treat for Treatment” fundraising event will be held at Friendly’s Restaurant in Middletown from 5 to 9 p.m.
    The event will benefit Justin Henke, the only known Delawarean Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva, an extremely rare and untreatable disease that painfully transforms muscles, ligaments and tendons into bone, resulting in permanent immobility.
    Proceeds will benefit FOP research and patient programs.
