• Middletown Main Street Inc. will open its second Designer Show House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This highly-anticipated home design extravaganza raises funds for its historic preservation work by offering visitors a dazzling tour of elegantly decorated rooms, gardens and facades. The Designer Show House will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Sunday, May 10.

• Children ages 3 and up are invited to the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, in Odessa, on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day, Life Cycles and Composting with Worms.

• Friends for Responsible Pet Care is holding a Basket Bingo at Aetna Fire Hall in Newark, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The night will feature 20 games plus three specials.

• An all-you-can-eat Spaghetti dinner will be held at the Blackbird Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m.

• Drop off your push lawn mower for a tune-up service from 2 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot behind Worrilow and Townsend halls at 531 S. College Ave., across from the Chrysler Plant, just north of the Fred Rust Ice Arena.
The tune-up, provided by trained University of Delaware students and alumni members of the clubs, includes an oil change, spark plug replacement, air filter check and cleaning, blade sharpening and power washing. The cost is $35.
The tune-ups are offered by the University of Delaware’s Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity for agriculture, the Society of Automotive Engineers Club and the Engineering Technology Club.
The first 200 Friday customers can pick up their mowers Saturday, from 1 to 6 p.m. Remaining mowers can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Drop offs will also be held Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• The 2009 Blue Danube Gala, sponsored by The Austrian-American Society of Wilmington, will be at 6:30 p.m. at The Gold Ballroom in Hotel DuPont, Wilmington.
The gala will have cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dancing, plus music and ballet performances. Proceeds benefit a scholarship for a six weeks study program at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria.

• The Ride to the Tide to benefit Special Olympics Delaware is a police-escorted motorcycle ride organized by the Delaware Blue Knights Chapter 1, and supported by Delaware’s Law Enforcement for Special Olympics, Jake’s Seafood and WBOC.
Bikers can depart from either the University of Delaware football stadium parking lot at 10:30 a.m. or the Seaford Harley Davidson at 11 a.m. All riders will end at Jake’s Seafood Restaurant in Lewes, where lunch will be provided compliments of Jake’s.
The cost to participate is $20 for riders and $15 for passengers, if registered before April 16. Day-of registration fee will be $25 for riders and $20 for passengers.
