This year Middletown’s annual Independence Day Fireworks Show will welcome back its salute to the country at Silver Lake Park.
Middletown has held a fireworks show on July 4 since 1996.
Kristen Krenzer, public relations officer for the Town of Middletown, said the celebration usually begins between 9 and 9:30 p.m., or at least after dusk.
“The firework experts decide when the best time is to begin,” she said.
Residents planning to attend the show are able to enter the park around 5 to 6 p.m.
The Maryland-based company Fireworks Productions puts on the fireworks show, and it usually lasts for 45 minutes.
Krenzer said the town estimates about 10,000 people will attend this year. Residents find various spots to lounge at Silver Lake, and bring a picnic dinner to enjoy the spectacle.
“People can watch them from Del. 299 and right in Silver Lake Park,” she said. “A lot of people from the developments can see them during their barbecues.”
Non-profit vendors will sell food like hotdogs and water ice, and other goodies like glow sticks and jewelry during the show.
The Town of Middletown employees and Middletown Police Department will oversee parking at Silver Lake. Officers will also keep watch for prohibited things such as pets, fires, grills and motorized vehicles.
“We make sure everyone is comfortable for [the show],” Krenzer said. “It is a really fun and patriotic day,” Krenzer said.
The rain date for the fireworks is Sunday, July 5.
Krenzer said vendors can sign-up by calling Middletown Administrative Assistant Rae Teel at 378-5670.
