Delaware State Police are investigating a collision involving a motorcycle and a car that happened Sunday evening southeast of Middletown.
The collision happened at about 7:02 p.m., on DuPont Parkway (U.S. Route 13) at Old State Road, said State Police Sgt. Richard D. Bratz.
Elmer P. McComas, 51, of New Castle, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson FKC motorcycle north on U.S. Route 13 approaching Old State Road.
A 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Nicholas G. Alexander, 32, of Smyrna, was westbound on Old State Road and entered the intersection to turn left onto U.S. Route 13 south in front of the motorcycle.
The Focus struck the motorcycle, throwing McComas off the motorcycle, Bratz said.
The Focus stopped in the intersection and the motorcycle continued almost one mile north on U.S. Route 13 until it veered east off the road and struck a ditch.
McComas was wearing a helmet. He was treated by the New Castle County paramedics and was taken by emergency medical services personnel to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries, Bratz said.
Alexander was not injured in the collision. He was cited for failure to remain stopped at a stop sign, Bratz said.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. US 13 and Old State Road was impacted for approximately 20 minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.
