Delaware State Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a male pedestrian was killed early this afternoon just north of Smyrna.
At about 12:31 p.m., on southbound Route 1 near Paddock Road, a vehicle struck a pedestrian, said State Police Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale.
The pedestrian has been pronounced dead, Hale said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. No injuries to the driver were reported.
The southbound lanes of Route 1 are closed in the area of the crash and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel.
More details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation, Hale said.
