The Delaware Beekeepers Association will hold a Beekeeping 101 workshop from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 inside Cannon Room 7 at Wesley College, 120 N. State St., Dover.

This one-day course is an intensive beginning beekeeping educational opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the art and science of beekeeping. The class will cover basic beekeeping concepts, such as hive equipment, honey bee biology, colony feeding and placement, disease identification and more..

Registration is $50 and includes presentations, light breakfast fare, lunch, a one-year membership in the Delaware Beekeepers Association, handouts for each topic covered and the beginning beekeeping book, “Beekeeping for Dummies” by Howland Blackiston. Married couples/life partners are welcome to attend and only pay for one person.

Workshop presenters include: Kathy Hossler, Delaware Beekeepers Association president; Joe Nicolai, vice president, Kent County Beekeepers; Roseann Harkins and Carla Lewis, experienced beekeepers; and Robert Mitchell, experienced beekeeper and retired state apiarist, Delaware Department of Agriculture.
