Motorcyclist seriously injured.

The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a motorcycle that occurred mid-morning Saturday north of Bridgeville.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, as a 72-year-old male was operating a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Newton Road, negotiating a slight right curve just east of Adams Road. A 2012 Cadillac CTS was traveling westbound on Newton Road approaching the motorcycle while negotiating the same curve. For unknown reasons, the motorcycle crossed the center line and struck the left side of the Cadillac in the westbound lane.  After impact, the motorcyclist and motorcycle slid before coming to a stop. The Cadillac was able to come to a controlled stop.

The 72-year-old motorcyclist was wearing an approved D.O.T. helmet and was airlifted to Christiana Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The adult male operator of the Cadillac and his adult male passenger were properly restrained and uninjured.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this case for either driver. Newton Road between Adams Road and Route 13 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
