Delaware State Police are investigating a domestic-related shooting involving an off-duty female trooper and her boyfriend in the Pike Creek area near Wilmington.

UPDATE (1:35 p.m. Monday, May 22)

Delaware State Police are reporting the victim in a May 21 trooper-involved shooting has died.

Division spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale identified the dead man as Maurice Ifill, 42, of Owings Mills, Maryland. 

Ifill died shortly after he and the still-unnamed trooper arrived at Christiana Medical Center, Hale said. Ifill's remains have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

The trooper, who is an eight-year veteran of the DSP, is in stable condition suffering from serious injuries, Hale added.

Delaware State Police are investigating a domestic-related shooting involving an off-duty female trooper and her boyfriend in the Pike Creek area near Wilmington.

The incident occurred at about 11:12 p.m. Sunday when a 9-1-1 call was received from a residence in the 3200 block of Champions Drive stating shots had been fired in the residence.

New Castle County Police and Delaware State Police responded to the address and found an off-duty female trooper severely battered and her boyfriend with a gunshot wound to his upper torso said State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

New Castle County Paramedics responded and transported the man and woman to Christiana Medical Center where they are being treated.

Detectives are continuing their investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence at the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident, said Fournier.
