The remains have been turned over to the forensics division

Detectives with the Delaware State Police are investigating the discovery of a set of human remains north of Dover.

The skeleton was found in a wooded area east of Leipsic Road near Marley Lane, Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

The remains were found at about 7 p.m. Thursday as an individual was walking through the area, Bratz said. The hiker called police, who confirmed the body was human.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science is working with state police conducting the inquiry.

The individual’s identity has yet to be determined, Bratz said, adding the investigation is in its early stages as troopers continue to collect and analyze evidence at the scene.
