The Delaware River and Bay Authority welcomed a new commission member as Vice Chairman Bill Lowe administered the Commission Oath of Office to Michael Ratchford, of New Castle, prior to the bi-state agency’s monthly meeting.

Ratchford’s term extends to July 1, 2019. On June 21, the Delaware State Senate unanimously confirmed his nomination.

As W.L Gore & Associates Government Relations associate, Ratchford is responsible for developing and executing government relations strategies in support of Gore’s business.

Prior to joining W.L Gore, Ratchford spent eight years in the electric utility industry, first as vice president of corporate communications and government relations at Conectiv in Wilmington, then as vice president of federal relations for Pepco Holdings Inc. in Washington, D.C. Ratchford also served as Delaware’s secretary of state and chief of staff for former Gov. Michael N. Castle and worked as an administration assistant to Rep. Michael Castle.

Ratchford currently serves on nonprofit, government and trade association boards including, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s board of governors, the Delaware Judicial Nominating Commission, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, Cecil County Maryland Economic Development Council and the Outdoor Industry Association’s Trade Advisory Council.

Ratchford earned a Bachelor of Arts from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and attained a Master in Public Administration degree from the University of Mississippi. Ratchford and his wife, Linda, reside in New Castle where Linda serves as president of the New Castle City Council.
