A ceremonial ground-breaking for new four-story hotel with 93 rooms was held in Middletown on Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites will be located next to Grotto’s in the MOT Park on U.S. 301 and will employ 20 to 25 people. It will also have an indoor pool, meeting rooms and a continental breakfast.

Bak Patel, one of the owners, said he will market the hotel property for the construction of a restaurant, owned by someone else in the future. “It will work well with the hotel,” he said.

The hotel will draw on motorists on U.S. 301, corporate clientele, and people staying for leisure, said Patel.

Middletown Mayor Kenneth L. Branner Jr. said, “We need another hotel to handle the future growth and what we have planned with the sports complex.”

Patel owns four other Holiday Inn Express hotels in Salisbury, Md., as franchises. There are about 5,000 Holiday Inn Express hotels in the United States.
