Sam Cannan, of Dover, president of the Veterans Watchmaker Initiative, Odessa, received a $500 donation Aug. 17 from the Stardusters, a social group from Spring Arbor, a 55 and older community in Middletown.

The VWI, which will train disabled veterans into a new career at no cost to them, will open its Odessa location, 307 Sixth St., at 10 a.m. Sept. 1.

The school will be supported by contributions from individuals, businesses and the watchmaking industry. VWI plans to host “It’s About Time,” fundraising events to help its programs in jewelry repair and watchmaking, in addition to repairing watches for jewelers and the watchmaking industry, according to Cannan.
