Kalmar Nyckel is back entertaining and educating with public sails along the Christina River taking place in Wilmington on weekends through Labor Day, Sept. 4, and weekends in September and October.
The ship will offer Christina river cruises and themed pirate sails, with costumes and pirate décor. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and refreshments and enjoy the scenery.
Sails depart from the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard on the East Seventh Street Peninsula. Then, the ship will make several trips to New Castle’s newly built public dock at Battery Park for the first time in a decade. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8, New Castle will welcome the ship back with a sunset reception with food, music and tours. Tickets are limited, and available at historicnewcastle.com for $25 per person.
The ship will stay at Battery Park on Sept. 9-10, offering dockside tours for guests. Then, from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 and again Oct. 21, she will return for her fully up-rigged sails of the season.
Kalmar Nyckel is available for charter cruises for private outings such as corporate events and team building exercises. Charter events have a maximum of 49 passengers. Tickets for Christina River sails start at $20 for children and $35 for adults. Tickets for full sails at Historic New Castle start at $40 for children and $60 for adults, with ship tours on select dates for $3 for children and $5 for adults.
