State police are investigating an unfounded bomb threat at Appoquinimink High School on Tuesday, Sept. 5, which was the first day of school for ninth graders.

At about 9:16 a.m., a phone call was received at the Middletown Police Department that said a bomb was at the high school.

The caller said there was a bomb in the school and that it would blow if it was not located.

Students and staff were evacuated from the school as troopers and K-9 units immediately responded and conducted a search.

Nothing of a suspicious nature was located and students were allowed to return to the school at approximately 10:20 a.m. to resume normal activities.

This incident remains under investigation by the state police.
