The public is invited to a 9-11 outdoor memorial ceremony at Middletown High School at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.

As part of the program, there will be solemn remarks, a flag ceremony and taps.

New this year, members of the community will be recognized for their donations which have allowed the Appoquinimink School District to become the first school district in the state to raise the “Freedom Flag.”

Donors will make a presentation to each of the district’s 16 schools before the first Freedom Flag is raised at Middletown High where it will be flown below the United States flag on Sept. 11 as a reminder to future generations about the victims, heroes and survivors of that day.

When they return to their respective schools, all other buildings will raise the flag.

Middletown High's Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets will continue their longstanding tradition of honoring those killed on 9-11.
