A 77-year-old man was hospitalized after a two-car accident at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Ash Boulevard, Middletown on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20, according to Middletown police.

The operator of a Hyundai Sonata was traveling south on U.S. 301 when a Chevrolet 1500 entered the intersection from Ash Boulevard to turn north and struck its passenger side, police said.

The impact caused the Hyundai to cross the intersection with the driver's door striking a yield sign in the median.

Police said the 77-year old operator of the Hyundai was trapped inside the vehicle. He was airlifted by helicopter to Christiana Hospital where he was treated and released.

The operator of the Chevrolet, Paul Robertson, 48, of Middletown was issued a citation for inattentive driving and released from the scene.

Police didn’t name the victim.
