The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old man, was the only occupant. He was able to get out of the vehicle and was walking at the scene when firefighters arrived.

A vehicle crashed and rolled over on northbound Route 1 near the toll plaza just south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Friday morning.

The crash happened at about 8 a.m., said New Castle County Paramedic Senior Corporal David J. McKinney Jr.

The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old man, was the only occupant. He was able to get out of the vehicle and was walking at the scene when firefighters arrived.

He was treated at the scene for injuries to the face, hand and back. He was transported to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital by an Odessa Fire Company ambulance with a New Castle County Paramedic accompanying him. The patient was stable at the time of transport, McKinney said.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.

Responding agencies included the Odessa Fire Company, Port Penn Fire Company, New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police.
