DNREC, other sites statewide

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control encourages Delawareans to deliver their Christmas trees to one of the yard waste recycling spots throughout the state. Christmas trees from residents will be accepted free.

Residents can bring their trees through Jan. 28. Contact a facility beforehand for specific hours and details. Trees will not be accepted from commercial haulers or tree vendors without prior approval. Artificial decorations, including hooks, wire, tinsel and ornaments and wood and metal tree stands must be removed from all trees.

Kent County will collect Christmas trees Jan. 8-12 and Jan. 15-19 — on regular trash day — for customers in trash districts that have yard waste collection.

DNREC’s Polly Drummond Hill Road yard waste site, which offers free Christmas tree drop-off to residents, will close Jan. 15.

Facilities may charge a fee for other yard waste. Other locations throughout the state also accept Christmas trees for a fee. Entities collect or accept Christmas trees, including various waste haulers and landscapers. Regular trash haulers may offer special January collections for trees.

There may be municipal or regional collection or drop-offs.
