The construction work will take place on the I-295 southbound overpass of U.S. Route 13, near New Castle, and will affect both routes.

Delaware River and Bay Authority officials announced that its contractor, Mumford and Miller, is planning to install structural steel related to the Interstate 295 Southbound Reconstruction Project west of the Delaware Memorial Bridge toll plaza to the Interstate 95/Interstate 495 split.

This construction work will take place on the I-295 southbound overpass of U.S. Route 13, near New Castle.

The contractor is scheduled to close and detour traffic on U.S. Route 13 southbound at the construction area on March 20 and 21. The detour, which will direct motorists to I-295 southbound to the ramp for Route 141 northbound to I-95 southbound to Route 141 southbound to I-295 northbound to the exit for U.S. Route 13SB, will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. both days.

The contractor plans to close and detour traffic on U.S. Route 13 northbound at the construction area. From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. March 26-28, U.S. Route 13 northbound traffic will be diverted to I-295 northbound to exit for U.S. Route 9 northbound to exit for I-295 southbound to the exit for U.S. Route 13 northbound.

Minimal delays are expected. The safety of the traveling public and on-site highway contractors is the agency’s highest priority. Motorists are urged to be careful and stay alert in and around construction zones, obey all posted speed limit signs and add some additional time to reach their final destination.
