Delaware middle and high school students are invited to attend a recruitment event set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Delaware State University Memorial Hall, 1200 N. Dupont Highway, Dover.
Hosted by the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, “Exploring Agriculture and Life Sciences: Introducing New Careers” will include access to faculty and industry professionals in agriculture, natural resources and life science fields. Current DSU students and alumni will also be available, and tours are planned of CARS farms and research facilities.
"The fields of agriculture and natural resources are perhaps two of the most misunderstood areas at most universities,” said Richard Barczewski, chair of the Agriculture and Natural resources department. “While production agriculture and natural resources involve a lot of practical and hands-on work, the supportive areas of these fields are extremely advanced, using cutting edge science and technology that enable us the ability to tackle issues impacting these critical areas. That, coupled with a huge availability of jobs, makes agriculture and natural resources great career paths."
Prospective students will be able to engage with alumni, employed in their respective fields, during a panel discussion, and with current DSU Hornets who will serve as facility tour guides during the event.
