The chair at the Middletown rehabilitation hospital remains permanently empty as a reminder of the more than 82,000 American soldiers who are listed as Prisoners of War or Missing in Action.

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in conjunction with the American Legion Riders from Post 14 in Smyrna and A Hero’s Welcome Delaware, held a POW-MIA Chair of Honor dedication ceremony at the hospital on Sept. 19 during National Rehabilitation Week.

The chair remains permanently empty as a reminder of the more than 82,000 American soldiers who are listed as Prisoners of War or Missing in Action. The dedication was well attended by hospital staff, veterans and veterans’ organizations, local politicians, current and former patients, and members of the community.

Veteran employees Toccara Barber RN, Dandan Wang RN, and Andre Watson, Nutrition Services, unveiled the chair. After the ceremony, the chair was moved to its permanent home in the entryway of the hospital for all visitors to view as they enter the facility.
