Southern New Castle County Rotary Club welcomed Delaware Veterans Trust Fund representative Dave Skocik to its breakfast meeting Sept. 25 at Middletown Diner.
Skocik, a fellow Rotarian from Dover Capital City Rotary, serves as president of the Friends of Delaware Veterans Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit made up of military veterans from across the state who donate their time and effort to raise money for the trust fund.
Signed into law in September 2013 under the auspices of the Commission of Veterans Affairs, the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund provides one-time, hand up grants to qualified veterans and has prevented cutoff of utilities, repossessions, evictions and even put food on the table.
The fund provides assistance to all generations of honorably discharged veterans residing in Delaware who find themselves in a financial emergency. Contributions stay in Delaware and are tax deductible, according to Skocik.
