Delaware Technical & Community College will offer four hands-on culinary classes this summer at its Stanton Campus. The classes are designed for at-home chefs who want to try a new menu of dishes perfect for warm weather get-togethers with family or friends.
These hands-on classes allow students to cook meals themselves in the DTCC culinary department kitchen along with an experienced faculty chef. Typically, a hands-on class consists of three parts: a brief lecture, cooking under the guidance of the chef, and, of course, eating. Usually, students work in small groups on one or more recipes in parallel with the other groups. For a hands-on class, please dress in comfortable, casual clothing and closed-toed shoes. The class size is limited to assure individualized attention.
Sweet Breads will be offered Wednesday, July 14. Ever considered making cinnamon buns or sweet rolls from scratch? This class teachers everything from proper measuring techniques to ingredient selection and finally the baking process.
Italian Alfresco Party will be held Wednesday, July 21. This class will teach students how to make figs wrapped in prosciutto with gorgonzola and walnuts, grilled local tomatoes with fresh mozzarella to grilled homemade pizza and a sweet treat of limencello gelato.
Backyard BBQ Party will be held Wednesday, July 28. This class will cover herb shrimp dip followed by brined pork chops with a spicy barbecue chutney. The perfect side dish includes a cabbage and tomato slaw with a sherry vinaigrette, with blackberry sundaes for dessert.
Yeast Breads 101 will teach participants a basic knowledge of flour, yeast and how ingredients interact, and how to make a tender loaf of bread.
Each class is held from 6 to 9 p.m. and is $55 per participant.
For information and registration, call 302-454-3956.
