A 25-year-old Middletown man was arrested Jan. 19 after officers including members of the Middletown Police Department’s newly formed Special Response Team responded to a domestic assault investigation in the first block of East Main St.
Police said Vincent F. Pfeiffer had barricaded himself in his bedroom with his 2-month-old son when they arrived at 5:05 p.m. Information provided by Pfeiffer’s girlfriend indicated that there was a shotgun on top of a kitchen cabinet.
Officers arrived at the residence, removed the shotgun and established communication with Pfeiffer, who was located in the second floor bedroom. The Special Response Team also responded to the location in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.
Police said that during the negotiations, Pfeiffer threatened to kill the officers if they attempted to arrest him. Officers continued negotiations and after a brief time, the suspect appeared from his bedroom carrying his son.
Pfeiffer was met by officers, who gave verbal commands to release the child. Police said he refused and a struggled ensued. The officers successfully removed the infant from Pfeiffer’s grasp.
Police said Pfeiffer continued to resist, which led to taser deployment. The infant was unharmed and the suspect incurred no injuries.
Pfeiffer was charged with resisting arrest with force, terroristic threatening, third degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and offensive touching. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility after receiving a $23,000 cash bail.
