Three Middletown residents were charged with shoplifting Jan. 16 after Middletown Police were dispatched to Kohls for a report of shoplifting in progress at 12:30 p.m.
Store staff reported that two individuals were removing security tags from items and were attempting to leave the store. Upon arrival, an MPD officer was given the vehicle and suspect descriptions.
The officer located the vehicle in the parking lot with two of the suspects. The officer said he activated his emergency equipment and the vehicle fled. The officer pursued the vehicle until it stopped at Route 301 and Merrimac Avenue.
The driver, Danielle Dicriscio, 22, of the 100 block of Vincent Circle, and passenger Shannon Barben, 28, of the first block of Ivy Lane, were taken into custody without incident. The third suspect, William Barben, 37, of the first block of Ivy Lane, was taken into custody behind Kohls.
Police said $1,834.89 in property was stolen and recovered. Police said investigation revealed that the individuals were also responsible for a theft at Kohls in Newark. That case was handled by the Delaware State Police.
All three suspects were charged with shoplifting, possession of shoplifting tools and conspiracy. Dicriscio was charged with failure to stop at the command, no proof of insurance, reckless driving and driving while revoked.
The suspects were arraigned and released on unsecured bond.
