A 20-year-old Middetown woman was involved in a three-vehicle crash that closed Route 13 in New Castle Wednesday at approximately 3 a.m.
The Delaware State Police said that a southbound Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Joseph Cannan of National Park, Va. struck the rear end of another tractor-trailer driven Farrell Harris of Petersburg, Va. at the split of Route 13 and Route 40. Harris’ vehicle was then forced into the rear of a Honda Civic being operated by Kristie Watunya, of Middletown.
Cannan’s vehicle, which was loaded with boxes of food, overturned into the parking lot of a former Exxon Gas Station located between Route 40 eastbound and Route 13 southbound. He was treated and admitted to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his arms and legs.
Route 13 southbound was closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and the roadway cleared. The accident is still under investigation.
