Three men were facing charges after Middletown Police said they observed an early-morning road rage incident Aug. 12 on Route 301 near Levels Road.
At 2:19 a.m., police monitoring speeds with Radar on southbound Route 301 said they observed two vehicles traveling side-by-side at high speeds, indicated at 87 MPH on the Radar. Police said it appeared the two vehicles were drag racing, but as they neared the officer’s position, the vehicles began to swerve and veer away from each other. Police said the vehicles nearly ran each other off the road.
Police stopped and identified both vehicles, their drivers and the passengers. David R. Krise, 22, of Townsend, and John F. Buchanan, 19, of Middletown were identified as the drivers. Police said the drivers of the two vehicles, or their passengers, got involved in an argument in the area of the Wawa and Waffle House parking lots on Route 301. Police said the argument progressed onto the highway as the two continued to drive, shouting obscenities and making obscene gestures at each other. Police observed the vehicles traveling at dangerous speeds as they passed the Walmart and stopped them.
Both drivers were given citations for their excessive speeds and reckless driving. Krise was cited for having no insurance card in possession. Buchanan was cited for no license in possession. They are scheduled to appear before the Justice of the Peace Court in Middletown on Sept. 1 to answer the charges.
Passenger Andrew Marker, 22, of Newark was arrested on warrants from the New Castle Court of Common Pleas.
