Car collides with school bus in Townsend

    Delaware State Troopers were called to the scene of a school bus-related crash in Townsend Tuesday.
    At approximately 8:20 a.m. a school bus and a Hyundai collided in the area of Caldwell Corner Road and Grears Corner Road.
    The vehicles involved in this morning’s crash in Townsend were a 2004 International school bus operated by Marilyn Dukes, 56, of Townsend. A 2000 Hyundai Sonata, operated by Kathleen King, 67, of Townsend.
    Ivestigation revealed the Hyundai was traveling southbound on Grears Corner Road approaching a stop sign at Caldwell Corner Road. The School bus was traveling eastbound on Caldwell Corner Road approaching Grears Corner Road. The school bus did not have a stop sign.
    The Hyundai ran the stop sign and collided with the school bus in the intersection.
    The bus was occupied by 27 students and the bus driver. The car was occupied by the driver and her 9-year-old grandson.
    Twenty-four of the bus passengers were treated for minor injuries at Christiana Hospital. No one in the Hyundai was injured.
    King was cited for Disregarding a Stop Sign.
    Traffic was impacted for approximately 90 minutes.
