A pedestrian was killed when she walked into the path of a car operated by a Middletown man on Route 13 near Washington Avenue in New Castle Feb. 17.
Delaware State Police stated in a press release that a Nissan Maxima, operated by John Iziken, 50, of Middletown, was traveling in the left lane on Route 13 southbound at 11:30 p.m. when Donna Andrews, 48, of Wilmington, who was walking from the west side of Route 13 toward the east, attempted to get into the center median. This was not in the area of a marked crosswalk.
DSP stated the pedestrian walked into the path of the Nissan resulting in the impact. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The operator of the Nissan was not injured.
It was noted that the pedestrian was walking with another male who was not injured in this incident, DSP stated.
Alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in this crash on the part of the pedestrian.
This crash remains under investigation. No charges are expected to be filed.
