The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious accident in Bear Thursday, Aug. 12, in which three people were injured.
The accident happened at approximately 11:10 a.m. as Colby Schepers, 26 of Bel Air, Md., was operating a 2006 Mazda 6 and southbound on Route 72 through the intersection of Porter Road in Bear. Scheper’s vehicle struck the front of a 1989 Mack Dump truck, operated by Edward Thompson, 55, of Middletown, which was attempting to make a left hand turn from northbound Route 72 onto westbound Porter Road.
DSP said the accident left Schepers with two broken femurs, a broken clavicle and a broken wrist. His front seat passenger, Laura Weichseldorfer, 27, of Bel Air, suffered a broken clavicle and lacerations to her knees. A back seat passenger in the Mazda, Layla Britton, 5, of Bel Air, received lacerations to her stomach and legs. All three were transported by Emergency Medical Services to Christiana Hospital in Newark. They were last listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Edward Thompson was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation at this time. The intersection of Route 72 and Porter Road was closed for approximately three hours as the accident was cleared.
