The Delaware State Police are investigating a one-vehicle rollover accident that occurred near Odessa Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. as Najee Briggs, 18, of Townsend was operating his 1994 Buick LeSabre and was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Old State Road, DSP reported. As Briggs rounded a curve, he lost control of the vehicle. Briggs then overcorrected the vehicle and drove off of the north edge of the road, into a ditch, and then up an embankment. Briggs’s vehicle then became airborne, striking some trees, and then overturned back onto the roadway, where it came to a rest on its roof.
DSP reported Briggs, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered injuries to his face, shoulder and ankle. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Christiana Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Briggs was charged by DSP with Driving at an unreasonable speed, no proof of insurance, no operators license in his possession and reckless driving.
Old State Road was closed for approximately 20 minutes as the roadway was cleared.
