Nancy B. Kilgore Gelley of Middletown passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 after a long illness. She was 87.
She was born on April 2, 1922, in Waltham, Mass.
Ms. Gelley was a registered nurse, avid bridge player and a supporter of the World Wildlife Fund. After graduating from Hahnemann Hospital, Worcester, Mass. in 1944. She worked in various operating room supervisory positions until taking time off to raise a family. She returned to nursing in 1970 at the Wilmington Hospital as an operating room nurse and moved to the Christiana Hospital when it opened in 1985. She retired in 1987. She continued as a volunteer with Christiana Hospital for another year.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Kilgore and Edward Kilgore.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gordon of Middletown, with whom she lived, and Mark and Bonnie of Jamestown, N.C.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Lynn and Bernard Walsh of Lakeland, Fla., and Martha and Craig Leatch of Addison, Mich.; two grandsons, Daniel of Jamestown, N.C. and Samuel of Addison, Mich.; a sister and a brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Allen of Peterborough, N.H.; and two sisters-in-law, Jacquelyn (Kilgore) Bigelow of Charlton, Mass. and Doris Gelley of Louisville, Ky.
The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice and Evelyn Raison for their mother’s care during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the M.O.T. Senior Center, 300 South Scott St., Middletown, DE 19709.
At Ms. Kilgore’s request, services will be private in Worcester, Mass.
