Police are searching for a Townsend man who they say robbed two banks this week.
Arrest warrants for Robert G. Kelly, 49, have been obtained by Delaware State Police for robbing the Citizen’s Bank in Middletown and the Wells Fargo Bank in the Peoples Plaza shopping center in Glasgow.
On Sunday at around 11:13 a.m., Kelly entered the bank area of the Middletown Acme on East Main Street where he approached the bank teller and demanded money, said Middletown Police Chief Henry Tobin. The teller complied and handed over money before the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
An employee identified Kelly after recognizing him in the bank. Security camera footage also shows him entering the Acme.
The second robbery occurred around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Bank on Glasgow Avenue.
Delaware State Police said the suspect entered the bank and demanded money from the 26-year-old female teller by presenting a demand note.
The teller complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack.
Kelly then fled in an unknown direction.
Prior to robbing Wells Fargo, police say that Kelly was seen in an M&T Bank in Elkton, Md. No attempt or robbery took place there.
Kelly is believed to be driving a 2002 Chevrolet Venture Minivan with Delaware tags PC173797.
He has a girlfriend that lives in Brandywine Hundred and he sometimes has stayed there, Tobin said.
He is wanted on two counts of robbery in the second degree.
Anyone with information on Kelly’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Middletown Police Department at (302) 376-9950 or the Delaware State Police Robbery Unit at Troop 2 at (302) 834-2630 ext. 6.
