New Castle County Police have arrested Ryan D. Caulk, a 23 year-old male who resides in the 200 block of Bayard Street in Delaware City. An officer attempted to stop him for operating an unsafe vehicle early March 12, but he refused to pull over. Instead, he tossed several packages of drugs from his window and led the officer on a short pursuit until he pulled over and was arrested. Caulk was found to be wanted by the Wilmington Police Department for a shooting investigation and the Delaware City Police Department for receiving stolen property.
At 12:30 a.m., Officer Michael Murphy was patrolling the area of Hares Corner when he observed a vehicle traveling on Route 13 with a broken glass (completely out) rear window. Murphy then pulled behind the car and activated his emergency equipment. The driver then began making evasive maneuvers and started to throw drugs from the driver’s side window.
Officer Murphy radioed for backup and followed the car for a short distance until the driver pulled over near the Route 13 and 40 split. The driver was immediately taken into custody and arrested for disregarding an officer’s signal to stop. Inside the car, police discovered that he was not able to get rid of all of his drugs as a small amount of heroin and marijuana was found on the driver’s seat.
A computer inquiry revealed Caulk had an arrest warrant for his involvement in a shooting that occurred on March 10 in the City of Wilmington.
Officers later canvassed the area where Caulk had tossed out the drugs along Route 13 and a small amount of marijuana was recovered.
He as charged with maintaining a vehicle for keeping a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, disregarding an officer’s signal to stop, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and several traffic offenses. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post $2,175 on the County charges and an additional $31,000 on the WPD charges.
