Emmanuel Presbyterian Church News
    The 500th Anniversary Celebration of the birth of John Calvin will be hosted by Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Wilmington Friday, July 10.
    This family friendly celebration will feature two presentations by Alan Strange, associate professor of Church History at Mid-America Reformed Seminary and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
    Two presentations will be given by Strange called “Calvin- His Life and Theology” and “Calvin’s Legacy.”
    Children’s programs and nursery will also be provided.
    The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a brief time to meet and greet. There is no cost for the event, but an offering will be received.

    Sunday services this week at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church at 15 E. Green St. include Holy Eucharist, Rite I at 8 a.m.; and Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. at Old St. Anne’s Church at the corner of South Broad Street and St. Annes Church Road.
    A healing service is conducted each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the town church. Evening Prayer is celebrated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Old St. Anne’s.
    Vacation Bible School, Studio-Go, a game show, has begun and will be held for the next four Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church. There are programs for children age 4 and older, and an adult Bible class will also be offered. There is still time to participate. Go to the church Web site below or call 378-4854 to register. It is free and all are welcome.

Taekwon-Do summer course
    Middletown Baptist Church is hosting a free beginner Taekwon-Do course through Aug. 26.
    The course will meet each Wednesday, from 7 to 8 p.m. 
    This is the fourth year that the course has been offered. Tony Skinner, an internationally recognized sixth-degree black-belt instructor, will teach the class.
    The course will feature various self-defense techniques utilizing kicking, punching and blocking.

Liberty Baptist Vacation Bible School
    Liberty Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School July 13 through 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at 2744 Red Lion Road, Bear.
    The theme is “Boomerang Express” and it is for ages 4 to fifth-grade.

Seventh Annual Gospel Sing
    The Seventh Annual Gospel Sing 2009 will be held at 100 Main St., Warwick, Md., Saturday, July 11.
    Admission is free. Free refreshments will be served and southern gospel and traditional music will be played.
    In the event of rain, the gospel sing will be held at the Warwick Church Fellowship Hall (across the street).

French Boys Choir to stop at St. Polycarp Church
    St. Polycarp Church in Smyrna will host the 2009 French Boys Choir concert Tuesday, July 7, at 7 p.m.
    Fourteen boys ages 9 to 14 and four young men will present a one-hour concert with a 15-minute intermission.
    Programs and CDs will be for sale, and a collection will be taken to support their travel expenses as they journey along on the east coast.
    Free light refreshments in Mother Drexel Hall will begin at 6 p.m.

Tree of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church holds picnic
    Tree of Life will host a summer picnic Sunday, July 19. Sign-up sheets for attendance and food contributions will be posted.
    Sunday school and Children’s Church are taking a summer break. The nursery, however, is available year-round.
    The Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. Ask an usher for a Blessing Bag with activities for children to start in church and work on at home during the week.
    The Property Committee is looking for volunteers to sign up their talents and tools. Settlement is scheduled for June 30 and planned relocation of the Ministry Center (i.e. church office) is set for Sept. 1. Planned relocation of Sunday services is Oct. 1.

Ringgold Chapel Annual Missionary Day
    Ringold Chapel will hold its Annual Missionary Day Sunday, July 5, at 3:30 p.m.
    The preacher will be the Rev. Karl Stevens from Byrd’s A.M.E. Church of Clayton, along with his choir and congregation.
    All are welcome.

Experience Camp E.D.G.E. at Bethesda
    Bethesda United Methodist Church’s vacation Bible school will be held Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Camp E.D.G.E: Experience and Discover God Everywhere,” and is a multigenerational VBS, open to those 3 years old and older. Parents are required to attend with children younger than 7.
    There is a requested donation of $5 per person for the week, with a maximum family donation of $25. Dinner will be provided, and campers will have a fun time as they work their way through interactive craft, music, drama and game centers.

Mt. Pisgah UAME church news
    Mt. Pisgah UAME Rev. Elwood Fews will preach at Faith Deliverance Church, Wilmington, Saturday, July 11, at 7 p.m.
    On Sunday, July 12, at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Dr. Verna Fews will host a meet and greet for married couples interested in launching a Couples Ministry.  The meeting will be at Mt. Pisgah immediately following morning worship service.
    Sunday, July 19, at  3 p.m., will be “CAMP Sunday” at Redding Middle School in Middletown. Mt. Pisgah’s praise dance team, the Diversified Dancers of God, will perform.
    Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be the Annual Water Fun Day at Mount Pisgah. Kiddie pools, water slide, games, food and drinks, and frozen treats will be available. Super soakers and towels are required. All are welcome. This will be sponsored by the Children of Christ Choir.
    From Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31, from  6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Mt. Pisgah UAME will partner with Summit United Methodist Church to host Vacation Bible School for ages 3 to adult. 
    This VBS includes the “Jesus Chronicles” curriculum, life skills program for teens, praise dance, crafts, music and meals. Call Jeanette Waters at (302) 750-0930 for more information.
    Youth Praise Dance and Choir Activity will be every Friday at 7 p.m. at Mount Pisgah. Membership is not required to join the fun.

Summer Book Study on ‘The Shack’ offered at New Covenant Church
    The best selling spiritual allegory, ‘The Shack’ by William Paul Young, will be offered as a summer book study at New Covenant Church. Time and day will be determined by the group. Books will be provided for purchase or participants can bring their own.
    There is no charge for those outside the New Covenant Church family.

Forest Presbyterian Bible Study
    Forest Presbyterian Church invites the community to join in their on-going weekly Bible Study held downstairs in the church in the air-conditioned room on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. No homework necessary. No stairs to climb.

    The church is currently studying the Acts of the Apostles.  Previous topics have included such books as “Women in the Bible,” Lenten Bible Study of “Prophets of the Bible,”  “Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, but I have Several Excellent Excuses,”  “Science and Religion,” “Problematic Bible Passages,” “The Confessions of Saint Augustine,” Timothy Keller’s “The Reason for God” and Marcus Borg’s controversial “Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time.” 
    Group members will take turns choosing the materials to read. 
    Currently Pastor Rev. Robert M. Snable, a graduate of Princeton Seminary, is leading the discussion about the Acts of the Apostles.
