Event highlights
• Survivor’s Reception and Lap Survivor’s Activities begin Friday, June 3, at 6 p.m. in the Survivor's Tent located along the track. The Survivor's Lap is the first lap of the event, and celebrates victory over cancer. The Survivor's Reception, a light dinner and entertainment will be held immediately following the Survivor's Lap.
• Luminaria ceremony The Luminaria Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 3 at 9 p.m. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer, to support those who currently have cancer and to honor those who have fought cancer and won. It provides an opportunity for people to work through grief and to find hope. Luminaria Bags will be available for purchase with suggested donation of $10. Tiki Torches are also available as part of the Luminaria Ceremony with a suggested donation of $20.
• 5K Run/Walk and Kiddie Track Run Registration begins at 7 a.m., Saturday, June 4 in the Survivor's Tent beside the track at Silver Lake Park. Registration costs $20. The Kiddie Track Run is for kids under age 10 who are not running the 5K. Registration for that run is $7 and starts at 7:45 a.m. The race begins at 8 a.m., rain or shine.
Quote of Note "Participation and creativity have increased overnight during the theme laps since we added the Bedazzled Bra contest. It’s dedicated to Breast Cancer awareness. The theme laps have gotten more popular in recent years and they really keep teams involved overnight. What’s new this year? Some fun late-night laps have been added to the list this year. The Geek Squad Lap will take off at 1 a.m., followed by the Mr. and Mrs. Relay Lap at 2 a.m. The Decade Lap this year will be the Fabulous 50s at 3 a.m., and Silver Lake Park will turn into a Winter Wonderland at 4 a.m. Relayers will then by channel their favorite princesses and super heroes during the Fairy Tale/Fantasy Lap at 5 a.m.
