Delaware State Police Major Crimes detectives arrested a 23-year-old Port Penn man for the alleged rape of an 8-year-old female after videos of him were discovered by the victim’s mother. The incident was reported Wednesday and the man was arrested Thursday.
Joshua Jones was charged with first degree rape and first degree unlawful sexual contact.
State police said the investigation began Wednesday when troopers were called to respond to a residence in the 100 block of South Congress Street in Port Penn. Upon their arrival the troopers were contacted by a 28-year-old female resident who advised them that she had discovered two videos on a desktop computer in the residence that depicted her daughter performing sexual acts on Jones.
Troopers were advised that when the mother confronted Jones, her boyfriend, about the videos, he fled the residence. Troopers searched the area for Jones, but could not locate him. The case was then turned over to detectives from the Major Crimes Unit located at Troop 2. After further investigation, detectives obtained a warrant.
On Thursday, troopers were called to the area of Route 13 at Drawyer’s Creek, north of Odessa, for the report of a suspicious person. Upon their arrival, they came into contact with Jones and took him into custody without incident. He was then transported to the Wilmington Hospital for an evaluation.
After his release he was arraigned by JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute for lack of $55,000 secured bail.
